This year, 2023 the color is Viva Magenta “It is a shade rooted in nature descending from the red family and expressive of a new signal of strength. Viva Magenta is brave and fearless, and a pulsating color whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative. This year’s Color of the Year is powerful and empowering. It is a new animated red that revels in pure joy, encouraging experimentation and self-expression without restraint, an electrifying, and boundaryless shade that is manifesting as a stand-out statement. Pantone wants to amplify the age of technology and how when we look to draw inspiration it is from nature and what is real. The Viva Magenta color descends from the red family and is “is inspired by the red of cochineal, one of the most precious dyes belonging to the natural dye family as well as one of the strongest and brightest the world has known.” The color experts at Pantone sate that the Color of 2023 reconnects us to original matter, “invoking the forces of nature, PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta galvanizes our spirit, helping us to build our inner strength.”

Past Colors of the Year
2020- While the year of 2020 was less than peaceful for the world, Pantone chose the color of the year to be Classic Blue, a calm, confident, and connected blue with a high hue.
2021- In 2021 we were still heavily battling the COVID-19 pandemic, and stress was high for most people around the world. During that time Pantone choose the colors of the year to be Ultimate Grey and Illuminating, a marriage of color that Pantone described as “Conveying a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting.”
2022- The color of the year in 2022 was Very Peri, a “carefree confidence and a daring curiosity that animates our creative spirit, inquisitive and intriguing” Pantone stating that the color was chosen because, “We are living in transformative times. Very Peri is a symbol of the global zeitgeist of the moment and the transition we are going through. As we emerge from an intense period of isolation, our notions and standards are changing, and our physical and digital lives have merged in new ways.”
